The name Nine Rails pays tribute to Ogden’s history as a railroad town, originally a major connection point on the Transcontinental Railroad and later, during World War II, a hub for nine different rail lines. “You can’t get anywhere without coming to Ogden” was a city slogan for a decade or more. The Nine Rails name is also symbolic of the Nine Muses from Greek mythology, with each muse representing a different form of artistic expression.
Join the Painted Streets Paint Party!
Ogden City Arts is hosting a Painted Streets mural project in the new Nine Rails Creative District and inviting the community to participate in painting the murals. Following a series of public submissions, advisory committee scoring and public voting, the selected designs are now being organized for completion via a community volunteer effort.
The first mural will be painted on the street in the center lane heading up the hill to Adams Avenue, and the second mural will be painted in the four crosswalks of the 25th and Adams crossing.
The Nine Rails team is asking community organizations and members of the public to participate in a “Paint Party” to facilitate the community murals in a series of paint-by-number paint sessions. Groups can organize volunteer groups or individuals can opt in for single sessions. The event will be held from June 15-23, 2018. Available days and times are listed in an online signup form, linked below.
